Old Koreelah 2002
 Sunday, 26th May :

"Old Koreelah - Novelty Sporting Clays" shooting Comp.

Hosted on bushland property in a small town called Old Koreelah. It's in northern NSW(New South Wales) across the
Great Dividing Range about an hours drive South over the QLD (Queensland) Border.(it's near Kyogle/Woodenbong).

A great long weekend away camping & shooting (clay targets with 12 gauge shotguns). With 220 competing shooters, along with their spouses, kids & quite a few dogs the place was pumping. Loads of people to meet and mingle with, share a few friendly drinks and plan to meet up again next year.

There was surprisingly no shortage of good roomy camping space to choose from.  Well organised site with heaps of Port-a-Loos and rubbish bins spread throughout the area (within easy reach everywhere)Also wonderfully HOT showers available at the main amenities, you couldn't ask for more.

Also huge supplies of firewood (donated by the local sawmill) to keep those campfires burning day and night all through the weekend, (we needed it too, pretty damn cold).

Very friendly atmosphere, as everyone already has a shared interest in the sport.  Some good natured rivalry was enjoyed between camps throughout the 2 days of competition.
The course was well laid out with a good variety of targets  which challenged the novice sporting shooters, (like us) and kept even the most seasoned shooters on their toes.

After delays on Saturday, (mostly due to slow starts by the first few squads of the morning), which resulted in  the "shoot offs" being held in the badly fading light of late afternoon, Sunday morning was announced at 6am with the sound of "the Loan-Ranger" theme music blaring loudly over the p.a. system, followed by Keith Murphy's solo rendition of "Oh Lord,it's Hard to be Humble"  making sure everyone was wide awake and ready to start off the day on schedule.

Even those who partied on late into the night, (with a live band set up on the back of a semi-trailer, and a huge bonfire), found it impossible to ignore the wake-up call.

To their credit, the organisiers somehow managed to keep everything running like clockwork on Sunday,(much to the relief of the competitors), finishing on time and allowing those who had to get home for work :-( enough daylight to pack-up camp and say their goodbyes.  Although we didn't place highly in the competition (maybe next year), a great time was had by all. We'll definitely go again in 2003. :-)
